The DGS girls track & field team is finishing up our 2nd week of practice. Last night, the girls raced in our annual Time Trials night in the DGS fieldhouse. Results and pictures from the time trials can be found on the Schedule/Results page and the Pictures/Video page.
The 2024 team is the largest we have had in over 20 years with more than 110 girls. We welcome many new athletes this season including more than 50 freshmen. We also welcome several new coaches to the staff including Gail Grant (sprints/hurdles), Mike Arenberg (distance), and Mary Namestnik (distance).
We have 5 girls returning from last year’s State Meet. Allison Mytys, Jessica Lander, Klaudia Sztafa, and Mariah Gonzalez all took part in the 4x100m relay that placed 14th in the state. Also, Karen Boakye improved tremendously at the end of last season to finish 6th in the state in the Triple Jump. With those 5 returning, plus several talented new runners joining the team, we look to be very strong in the sprint races.
The Mustangs will open up with our first official meet on Saturday, February 10th. DGS travels to Hinsdale Central to take on the host Red Devils along with squads from Naperville North and Proviso East.
