Strong performances in the field events propelled the DGS Mustangs track and field team to first-place finishes for both the Varsity and JV team at the Morton Invitational at Morton West HS Fieldhouse on Saturday. The Varsity topped the eight-team field with 187 points, while the JV secured the victory with 193 points.

Three Mustangs met 2025 IHSA State Qualifying Standards in their events. Senior Kailee Rodeck matched the state standard in the pole vault by clearing 3.20m (10’ 6”) to open the season. Junior Karen Boakye leaped 11.44m (37’ 6.5”) in the triple jump easily surpassing the state standard of 11.09m. That jump was Boakye’s career indoor best and the second-best indoor triple jump in school history. Freshman Alanna Banks started her Mustang career with a bang by clearing 1.63m (5’ 4.25”) in the high jump clear of the state standard of 1.57m.

Other Mustangs had equally solid showings in field events. Senior Rebecca Snouffer cleared three meters in the pole vault for the first time in her career with a height of 3.04m. Snouffer also won the varsity high jump with a leap of 1.47m (4’ 9.75”). Boakye set a personal record of 5.32m (17’ 5.5”) in the long jump, which matches the third longest indoor jump in school history. Junior Allison Mytys soared more than a foot farther than her previous indoor best in the same event, landing at 5.12m (16’ 9.75”). Clearing their personal indoor bests in the triple jump, seniors Estella Rizzo and Madelyn Pelzer jumped 10.41m (34’ 2”) and 9.93m (32’ 7”) respectively. Senior Miracle Hudson won the JV shot put with a PR of 8.93m (29’ 3.75”), while sophomore Neda Masiulionis leaped a PR of 4.22m (13’ 10.25”) to win the JV long jump.

“The field coaches and athletes have worked hard over the last month,” said Coach Doug Plunkett. “It’s great to see all that effort rewarded with such excellent marks today.”

On the track, the Mustangs used their depth to rack up the points. On the varsity side, Mytys won the 55m in a PR time of 7.39 seconds, while Snouffer won the 55m hurdles in 10.03 seconds. In the 4x160m relay, Samairah McShan, Rizzo, Jada Judkins, and Mytys won in a time of 1:26.21. Likewise, Ava LaRocco, Ashlee Gawlik, Renee Ciezadlo, and Samantha Oberle won in a time of 12:16.61 for the 4x800m relay.

For the JV team, freshman Kendra Kobiah won the 55 m in 8.07 seconds, while sophomore Alyssa Lamb won the 200m in 28.67 seconds. The Mustangs swept the middle and distance events. Marlo Tallarico (400m), Audrey Dunn (800m), Ashley Cotner (1600m), and Elle Watson (3200m) each won their events. All individual results and splits can be found on the Schedule/Results page.

The Mustangs will look to build on this strong start on February 22 at Wheaton-Warrenville South 5-Team Invitational.
