Outdoor season is here!
Although the girls track & field season is really just one long 18 week season, there are definite dividing points between the indoor and outdoor portions. With the track season starting back in January, the two parts are not divided equally. The March 26th Illinois Top Times meet marked the end of an 11 week indoor schedule. This week is when the final 6-7 weeks of outdoor meets starts in earnest. The meet schedule can be found HERE.
Downers Grove South will compete in two outdoor meets this week (weather permitting). On Wednesday, April 6, at 4:30pm, the Mustangs will host both Downers Grove North and York in a triangular meet. On Saturday, April 9, the DGS Invitational will be held on our home track starting at 2:00pm. The invitational meet will bring together 8 of the best girls track teams from the Chicago area. DGS will be competing against Glenbard West, Hinsdale Central, Lyons Township, Geneva, Loyola Academy, Glenbard North, and Bartlett.
For the next 4 weeks, the Mustangs will compete in one weekday meet and one weekend invitational meet. The 5th week will end with the outdoor conference championship and the 6th week will bring a final JV meet and then the IHSA Sectional meet (state qualifying meet). Assuming we have some state qualifiers, week 7 of the outdoor season ends with the State Championship meet at Eastern Illinois University.
Other than conference or the state series, meets that are canceled due to weather, will not be made up.
