McNerney wins 800m!

On Saturday, February 6th, Sophia McNerney (Jr) competed in the Morolake Akinosun Elite Invite. This was an open preseason competition held at the newly christened Gately Indoor Stadium in Chicago. Sophia entered the 800m run against some very good local competition including Audrey Allman of Glenbard West and Josie Bond of Naperville North. Sophia ran an aggressive race, moving into the lead just before the 200m mark. She increased her lead over the next 2 laps, and then held off a closing chase pack in the final lap to take 1st place. Sophia’s time of 2:18.68 was a big PR and an indicator of great things to come once the IHSA track season officially begins in April. Meet results can be found on Athletic.net.
