The DGS girls track & field team took 1st place out of 20 teams at the prestigious Wheaton South Tiger Invitational meet on Friday night. The Mustangs scored 101 points to runner-up Naperville North’s 97 points by winning 6 out of the 18 events.

Maddie Manganiello (So) bettered the entire long jump field by over 16 inches with an outstanding leap of 18′ 0.5″ to take 1st place. Sonja Renowden (Jr) helped the Mustang cause with her 9th place jump of 16′ 4″.

The remainder of the DGS point total came from the track, starting with the 100m dash. Shaliyah Dixon-Tucker (Sr) took 1st with 12.34, while Nicole Muccianti (Jr) placed 4th (12.81), and Arianna Finley (Sr) finished 8th (13.06).  All three girls teamed up with Soren Umali (Jr) to win the 4x100m relay in 48.85 despite some less than perfect hand-offs.  Dixon-Tucker and Muccianti came back to place 3rd and 7th respectively in the 200m dash with times of 26.67 and 26.97.  While Umali took home 1st place in the 300m hurdles (47.98).  Dixon-Tucker and Umali dominated the 100m hurdle race by placing 1st and 2nd in 15.31 and 15.72 times.

Michaela Hackbarth (Sr) regained the state’s fastest 800m time with her victory in 2:12.50.  Becky Versaskas (Fr) placed 7th in the same race in 2:22.70.  Hackbarth came back to place 7th in the 1600m run in 5:09.86. Katie Stapleton (Jr) placed 4th in the 3200m run with 11:09.99. The final points of the night were scored by the 4x400m relay team of Renowden, Versaskas, Umali, and Hackbarth with their 7th place finish in 4:14.16.
