The DGS girls track & field team captured 1st place out of 16 teams at yesterday’s Lockport Invitational. The Mustangs won 3 events and placed well in several others in the cold, windy conditions. DGS scored 81 points, outdistancing 2nd place Downers Grove North (68 pts) and the host Lockport team (58 pts).

As has been the case all season long, seniors Shaliyah Dixon-Tucker and Michaela Hackbarth led the way. Shaliyah, who was only entered in 2 events, did all she could by winning the 100m hurdles and anchoring the winning 4x100m relay team. Dixon-Tucker’s time in the 100m hurdles (14.41 seconds) is the fastest time in Illinois up to this point. She was joined by Soren Umali (Jr), Nicole Muccianti (Jr), and Arianna Finley (Sr) in the 4x100m relay, posting a time of 48.76, one of the fastest times in state so far.  Michaela Hackbarth took 1st place in the 800m run with a time of 2:14.23, which ranks as the #2 time in Illinois. Michaela also placed 5th in the 400m dash (1:00.49) and anchored the 2nd place 4x400m relay team of Sonja Renowden (Jr), Becky Versaskas (Fr), and Alexus Allen (So) in 4:1143.

Maddie Manganiello (So) was the only DGS point scorer in the field events as she placed 6th among an outstanding field of long jumpers with a leap of 17′ 1″.  Nicole Muccianti (Jr) surprised the field from a slow heat of the 100m dash to place 5th (12.69 seconds). Both Melissa Weidner (Fr) and Olivia Duax (Fr) picked up valuable points by placing 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 3200m run with 11:51.18 and 12:00.67.  Katie Stapleton (Jr) and Becky Versaskas (Fr) contributed to the Mustang victory by placing 4th and 5th respectively in the 1600m run (5:20.41 and 5:21.91). Junior, Soren Umali, a state qualifier in both hurdle races last season, is starting to round back into competitive form as shown by her 3rd places finishes in both the 100m hurdles (15.34 seconds) and 300m hurdles (48.52 seconds).  Lauren Wong (Sr) also scored in the 300m hurdles by placing 5th (48.96 seconds).

The final points came from a pair of 5th place relay teams. The 4x200m team of Sonja Renowden (Jr), Nicole Muccianti (Jr), Arianna Finley (Sr), and Alexus Allen (So) ran 1:48.27 while the 4x800m relay team of Jill Boyle (Sr), Gillian Thomas (So), Maggie Seitz (Sr), and Alisha Macas (Fr) ran 10:36.86.  Full meet results can be found HERE, and additional individual result and relay splits can be found on the Schedule/Results page.

DGS hosts their final home meet of the season vs. Addison Trail, Willowbrook, and Proviso East on Monday. At the end of the week, the Mustangs travel to Wheaton South for the 19 team Tiger Invite. This 2 meets are the last ones of the regular season before the 3 week conference-sectional-state run begins.
