The DGS girls track team had several outstanding performances including 2 new indoor school records at yesterday’s Illinois Top Times meet. Abby Kargol started off the afternoon with a 5th place finish in the 3200m run. Abby’s time of 11:03.72 was an improvement on her own indoor school record set only 3 weeks earlier. The Mustangs were well represented in the prelims of the sprint races with 2 girls in both the 60m hurdles and the 60m dash races. Shaliyah Dixon-Tucker won her prelim of the 60H in 9.08 seconds to qualify for the finals. Soren Umali finished 2nd in her 60H prelim in 9.42 and just barely missed making the finals by 0.02 seconds, finishing 9th overall. Shaliyah came back minutes later in the 60m dash prelims, running 7.86 to finish 2nd in her heat and qualifying again for the finals. Nicole Muccianti ran a very respectable 8.31 to finish 6th in her 60m dash prelim, 22nd overall. The 4x800m relay team of Amanda Thate, Mary Beine, Jill Boyle, and Maggie Seitz finished 11th in a tough field with an overall time of 10:00.12 with several girls running season best PR’s. Then it was Shaliyah’s turn to race the finals in both the 60H and 60m dash. She ran very well, finishing 4th in the hurdle race dropping her time down to 8.96, and 6th in the 60m dash with an improved time of 7.79. Michaela Hackbarth took the track next against a very accomplished field to race the 800m. She ran a great race to finish 3rd overall and lower her own indoor school record to 2:15.50. The 4x200m relay team of Nicole Muccianti, Soren Umali, Rachel Petro, and Shaliyah Dixon-Tucker finished 12th out of a field of 16 teams in 1:49.32. The final race of the evening was a very exciting one as the 4x400m relay team came into the meet seeded 6th and left with the 2nd place hardware. The quartet of Rachel Petro, Lauren Wong, Mary Beine, and Michaela Hackbarth ran 4:02.89 to finish less than 1 second behind the 1st place team. DGS will be well represented at this year’s Top Times meet on Saturday, March 28th. The meet is considered the ‘unofficial indoor state meet’ and serves as an exciting conclusion to the 10 weeks of indoor track & field competition in Illinois. Invitations to compete are based on the times and distances achieved throughout the indoor portion of the season. The number of participants who are selected in each event is limited to 12-15 athletes in most events, so it’s considered an honor to have qualified. This year, the Mustangs will have 11 athletes competing in 6 individual events and all 3 relays. Shaliyah Dixon-Tucker (Jr) and Nicole Muccianti (So) will both compete in the 60m dash. Shaliyah’s qualifying time ranks her 6th among this year’s ITT competitors. Dixon-Tucker will be joined by Soren Umali (So) in the 60m hurdles and both Mustang athletes are ranked in the top 5 going into the meet. The two of them are the state’s best duo in the hurdle event so far this season as both look to make the finals and finish high. Abby Kargol (Sr) will be running the 3200m for the 3rd straight year and is currently seeded #3 overall. Abby finished 4th in this meet last year and went on to place 5th overall at the outdoor state meet. Michaela Hackbarth (Jr) will be running the 800m race and her seed time makes her the top seed and favorite in the event! Michaela is coming a great sophomore season last Spring where she placed 2nd overall in the 800m at the outdoor state meet and is looking to move up this year. The 10th ranked 4x800m relay team will be Amanda Thate (Sr), Mary Beine (Sr), Jill Boyle (Jr), and Maggie Seitz (Jr). The 8th ranked 4x200m relay quartet will be Nicole Muccianti, Rachel Petro (Sr), Soren Umali, and Shaliyah Dixon-Tucker. Finally, the 6th ranked 4x400m relay team will be Rachel Petro, Lauren Wong (Jr), Mary Beine, and Michaela Hackbarth. The ITT meet program with all of the seed times can be found HERE. The ITT meet time schedule can be found HERE.
The DGS varsity came home with the majority of the hardware at last night’s WSC Gold meet. Shaliyah Dixon-Tucker led the way winning 4 individual events and setting 2 meet records in the process. Shaliyah won the 55H in 8.39 (meet record) followed closely by Soren Umali in 8.54, giving DGS the best hurdle duo in the state so far. Her other meet record came only minutes later as she won the 55m in a fast 7.22 time. Shaliyah also won the high jump (4’10”) and a very close race in the 200m (26.69). Both Abby Kargol and Michaela Hackbarth were double individual winners with Abby winning the 3200m in 11:43.43 and the 1600m in 5:20.33. Michaela won the 800m in 2:29.28 and the 400m in 1:01.57. Those 2 races were big points for DGS as we finished 1-2 in both. Amanda Thate was runner-up in the 800m and Rachel Petro was runner-up in the 400m. Rachel was also a meet champion in the 300m with a time of 43.05. The Mustangs also won all 3 relay events. DGS placed 1-2 in both events as Kara Petersen and Alyssa Taglia were runner-ups. Emily Kaszyk won the 3200m in 13:03.74. Sophomore sprinter Sonja Renowden won the 200m in 28.60. And Lauren Ackermann was the lone field event champion winning the pole vault with a 7’6″ jump.
